In May of 2009, a group of believers, from different backgrounds, began praying about the possibility of planting a church in the South Palm Beach area. An old friend of Pastor John’s had made a, small store front, performing arts space in Boynton Beach available to us for little cost, and we began meeting shortly thereafter. As we continued to pray for direction, we developed a burden for the community of Delray Beach very quickly; and that’s when God opened up an opportunity for us to have our Saturday night meeting at Veterans’ Park Community Center in Delray Beach. It is at that time, we came up with the name Delray Beach Community Church.
Having been heavily influenced by the Calvary Chapel movement’s commitment to teaching God’s word, following the Holy Spirit’s leading, and reaching locally and globally with the gospel of Jesus Christ, we contacted Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale regarding the possibility of affiliating with the Calvary Chapel movement. As we began the affiliation process, God continued to bring fresh vision and a true burden on our heart for the children and families of Delray Beach. Where God led us was a then hidden away school on Seacrest Blvd., called Plumosa Elementary School. Many of us lived locally and had no idea the school even existed! When we started meeting there we had no idea that the school itself was going through a transition and they were in the process of renovating the former Atlantic High school. We began meeting in the cafeteria in 2011 and it was on May 1st, 2011 that Delray Beach Community Church became Calvary Chapel Delray Beach.
Where we are today
We continue to meet at Plumosa School of the Arts and are Heaven blessed by our developing relationship with the school. Our commitment to create a safe place where God’s word is presented in love and without compromise has not wavered. We currently meet the in Plumosa school cafeteria , which we believe accommodate the needs of this growing, loving family in Christ. We would love if you would come join us for worship!
