"I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ."
"I decided that I cannot trust God anymore with the word He has given to me. I feel like I've been called to question it and bring some variety to the message in which was given to me by God. I heard this other person say some pretty neat stuff and it seems to ring true. I mean afterall, how can I trust that the scriptures are even accurate? Plus, my friends would so agree with me and support me."
This is just an example thought of what many people might be thinking today. In our day and age, things seem to be more and more distorted as technology advances. In this passage of scripture, Paul is addressing the church in Galatia in what seems to be like a turning away from the gospel entirely. They became more interested in what people had to say rather than what God had to say. Why is it you may ask? Is it how they were led? Are they missing something?
The church of Galatia much like the church today was presented with the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. However, what tends to happen is the things of this world creep in and completely change the flavor of the Gospel completely. They are losing their flavor. In hopes of having variety and in hopes of appealing to the world, they have given up the unique flavor of the message of Jesus Christ. After losing that flavor, how can you then be a witness to the world if you show you aren't any different?
"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless."
If you have been given the Gospel of truth and the spirit of God is inside of you, there is supposed to be a difference about you from the rest of the world. You can have flavor and still be in the world and have relationships with people. But as far as what you believe and what your convictions are in the spirit, that should stay the same.
"Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!"
Many Christians today might feel they don't wanna be a bother to people or close themselves off. But let me remind you that the apostle Paul as stated in the verse at the beginning says he does not seek to please men. Otherwise he would not be God's servant. How could he? Afterall, Paul before he was Paul was a man who went by the name of Saul. He persecuted Christians and by no means were there any signs of that changing. But Jesus came to him in a very real and personal way that he repented, did a complete turn around from the things he was doing and the life he was living, and walked in the will of God.
"for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure."
If you are doing something that is contrary to what you have been taught in the spirit of Jesus, odds are you have not let perseverance had its work in you so that you may be complete and lacking nothing. (James 1:4) When the going gets rough, you have to keep doing the next right thing. As I've mentioned in previous posts, you need to be in an environment that helps you to thrive in Jesus, not in a place full of things that serve to please us. The more you are in a Christ centered environment, the more that will be what's pleasing to you and the more it will be pleasing to God. If you are not in this type of environment that is helping you to grow in Jesus, you need to pray as to where God would have you to be.
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen."
2 Peter 3:18
Don't be concerned with what anyone else thinks of you. When God is working in you, He's changing everything so the things you used to do that were not pleasing to Him you no longer do. So that means there will be an obvious change in direction and this is needed if you want to serve God. For His ways our not our ways, nor are His thoughts our thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8) He knows exactly what He wants to do in you, and you need to let Him do it!
